Food Lover’s Market Foundation launches, and supports KZN flood victims

Share

Over the last year, Food Lover’s Market has worked hard to clearly define its far-reaching People Strategy. As part of this process, the company officially launched the Food Lover’s Market Foundation at the May 2022 conference, with seed funding of R2 million provided by the business.

The purpose of the Foundation is to enable family members of our colleagues to flourish in life, thrive, to build resilience, regardless of their background or circumstances, by unearthing the incredible potential within the Food Lover’s Market colleague community.

“As a business, we are wholly committed to closing the social mobility gap between the children of our different colleagues, which means that we will focus on supporting those children who do not have the same access to life’s opportunities as others,” says Andrew Millson, HR Director at Food Lover’s Market.

One of the objectives of the FLM Foundation is to provide emergency relief in times of critical situations, and with the recent floods in KwaZulu-Natal, the Foundation was able to step in and assist our people through this terrible catastrophe. The floods in Durban left many of our colleagues in dire straits, having lost their homes and belongings. Poovie Manie, HR Business Partner, and Kate Marais, CSI Manager, arranged for the purchasing and distribution of emergency disaster relief packages to those most affected by the floods. “There was a complete surprise, joy, and many tears when we handed out the much-needed household supplies. The appreciation from our people was humbling, to say the least. Many colleagues told us that this really shows how much FLM cares,” explains Kate.
