Despite the lockdown, the Development department has been very busy working on new stores and some big refurbishment projects. In September, the new Boksburg store opened in Gauteng. It is a 4,000m2 store that has taken over an existing space. It has dedicated parking in-front and the exterior of the building will be completely revamped.
Food Lover’s Market Boksburg features a Market Café with indoor and outdoor seating and an outside play area for the kids. What makes it unique is a floating mezzanine level fitted with glass so that customers can see the preparation of our baked goods. A glass hoist lift will then bring down the final baked goods to the main floor for display and sale.
The new William Moffet store will open in Port Elizabeth towards November and will be the biggest FLM in the area. It will carry full ranges of everything with theatrical attractions, hot food islands, Grab ‘n Go sections and a Grill Shack, with the focus being on convenience foods. A large butchery will be complemented by a fresh Seafood counter and a Bubs’ Fish and Chips outlet. There will also be a Seattle Coffee Company with inside and outside deck seating. In addition, the team is working on new stores in Midrand, Montana and Paarl for opening next year.
According to Andrew Strickland, Architectural Technologist at FLM, they have also been busy working on the revamp of some of the older stores. “We want to revamp some of our older stores so that they feature the ‘theatre of food’ look and feel that our latest stores are known for. We hope to complete seven revamps next year so that we can freshen up the offering for our customers.”
