Being the best store in the community we serve is more than just offering the Best in Fresh and an amazing shopping experience. It means being involved with the communities that we serve by helping them thrive. One way in which we are doing this is through our store-led relationships with local child-centric organisations – each FLM store supports a child-centric Beneficiary Organisation (BO) in their immediate community through feeding schemes and donations.
In preparation for the new store opening, on Friday 17 November, colleagues from head office and FLM Malmesbury gathered for a team-building event at the Elkana Children’s Centre, their chosen BO that they will be supporting going forward. A registered Child and Youth Care Centre, the Elkana Children’s Centre provides temporary safe care and protection to 24 girls aged between 4 and 17 years through their residential programme. As part of our commitment to giving back to the community, colleagues spent the day restoring the facility’s play park, which included repairing the jungle gym, gardening and planting flowers as well as a sprucing up the outside of a storage container that faces the play area (netball hoop coming soon) with an incredible mural, hand drawn by our talented signwriters. Each child also received a sausage roll and goodie bag with a handwritten message which they thoroughly enjoyed. Not only did this event provide a chance for team building, but it also served as an opportunity to instill our FLM values in our new colleagues.
FLM Malmesbury will continue to support this the Elkana Children’s Center by supplying fresh produce to provide meals for all 24 girls on a monthly basis.
