Sustainable Partnerships Inspire Farmers of the Future
In the world of farming, innovation and sustainability go hand in hand. At Food Lover’s Market, we’re proud to partner with farmers who are not only passionate about producing exceptional quality food but also dedicated to minimising their environmental impact. Meet two of our inspiring partners who are shaping the future of farming:
Revolutionising Aquaponics with Integrated Aquaculture
Founded in 2014 by Lance Quiding, Integrated Aquaculture is a pioneer in aquaponics – an intensive, environmentally conscious food-growing methodology. Their farms specialise in biological farming, producing exceptional quality food with the smallest possible impact on the environment. By integrating aquaculture (fresh-water fish farming) with hydroponics (growing vegetables in nutrient-rich water), Integrated Aquaculture creates a closed-loop system where fish waste nourishes leafy greens, and the plants filter the water for the fish. This innovative approach not only conserves water but also eliminates the need for synthetic fertilisers and minimises waste.
Our partnership with Integrated Aquaculture began in 2022 when they became finalists in our Seeds of Change Supplier Development Programme. Since then, they’ve become a valued supplier, providing fresh fish and leafy greens to several of our Food Lover’s Market stores in Gauteng. Lance Quiding, Founder and CEO, emphasises the impact of this partnership: “The support that Food Lover’s Market has given us cannot be understated. It goes to show the gravity that one small decision can have.”
Raising Happy, Healthy Hens with Eddie’s Eggs
Eddie’s Eggs, founded in 2017 by brothers Eddie and Johnny Ferreira, is leading the way in producing non-GMO pasture-raised eggs. Their farm, located in the Eastern Cape, implements regenerative farming practices and prioritises the well-being of their hens. Eddie’s Eggs is the first farm in Africa to achieve the Certified Animal Welfare Approved Award by A Greener World (AGW) for their laying hens. Their chickens enjoy a wholesome life, roaming freely on pasture 365 days a year and feasting on non-GMO feed that Eddie prepares himself.
As a preferred supplier of Food Lover’s Market since 2020, Eddie’s Eggs provides certified non-GMO eggs to our stores in Gauteng, the Eastern Cape, and the Western Cape. Eddie’s commitment to producing cleaner, healthier eggs reflects our shared values of sustainability and quality.
