Every year, World Food Day is observed on 16 October to promote food security while addressing the pressing issue of world hunger.
According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), one in nine people suffers from starvation, despite the world producing enough food to feed its population. Tragically, around 45% of deaths among children under the age of five are attributed to malnutrition.
As part of our ongoing commitment to eradicate hunger and celebrate World Food Day, colleagues from our Cape Town head office, Access Park store, and Freshpak volunteered at long-standing partner and beneficiary organisation of FLM, FoodForward SA’s warehouse on Monday, packing 100 pallets with nutritious food, fresh produce, and groceries, for distribution to food-insecure communities through FoodForward SA’s beneficiary organisations.
To support FoodForward SA in their continuous efforts to address widespread hunger in South Africa, FLM also donates fresh fruit and vegetables through our Freshpak distribution center each month, which is then distributed through their 2,750 beneficiary organisations across the country.
