Ingredients
For the Apple Base:
4 apples, peeled and roughly chopped
180ml (3/4 cup) water
45ml (3 Tbsp) sugar
30ml (2 Tbsp) lemon juice
2.5ml (1/2 tsp) cinnamon
1.25ml (1/4 tsp) mixed spice
4 allspice
1 cinnamon stick
For the Crumble Topping:
125ml (1/2 cup) flour
60ml (1/4 cup) white sugar
60ml (1/4 cup) brown sugar
45ml (3 Tbsp) butter, melted
For the Sweet Crispy Tortilla:
6 tortillas, divided into 8 triangles each
Oil for frying
60ml (1/4 cup) white sugar
5ml (1 tsp) cinnamon
Directions
For the Apple Base:
In a medium size saucepan, combine all the ingredients and cook for 15-20 minutes until the water has reduced by half and the apple is soft.
Remove the allspice and cinnamon stick and mash the apple until smooth. Place into an oven safe square dish of about 15-17cm and set aside.
Preheat your oven to 180°C.
Combine all the ingredients and roughly mix. You want the butter to be incorporated, but still have big sugary clumps. Be careful not to overmix, otherwise a paste will form.
Top the apple sauce with the crumble and bake for 25-30 minutes until the topping is golden brown.
For the Sweet Crispy Tortilla:
While the crumble is cooking, fry the tortilla triangles in the hot oil for 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Alternatively you can place them in the air fryer.
Combine the sugar and cinnamon in a large bowl. Add the fried tortilla triangles and give it a good toss in the sugar mixture until well coated.
Dip into the warm apple pie dip and enjoy!
