Food Lover’s Market Disaster Relief Fund, Helps Communities

Food Lover’s Market Disaster Relief Fund Helps Community

At Food Lover’s Market, our commitment to our colleagues extends beyond the workplace. We understand that life can present unexpected challenges, and in times of crisis, we stand together to support each other. That’s why we established the Food Lover’s Market Disaster Relief Fund, a vital initiative aimed at assisting our colleagues during times of need.

Providing Relief Amidst Adversity

Over the past year, our colleagues faced daunting challenges due to natural disasters such as the KwaZulu-Natal floods and the Masiphumelele fire. In response to these emergencies, the FLM Foundation swiftly mobilised to provide disaster relief assistance. A total of R31,000 was disbursed to 12 affected colleagues, offering them much-needed support during these trying times.

Aiding Recovery with Essential Relief Packs

The disaster relief packs distributed by the FLM Foundation contain essential items to help alleviate the immediate impact of such calamities. These packs include blankets, pillows, towel sets, cutlery, crockery, glassware, kitchen appliances, toiletries, and Food Lover’s Market vouchers. Tailored to accommodate different household sizes, these packs provide practical assistance to our colleagues as they navigate through challenging circumstances.

FreshStop’s Compassionate Response to KZN Floods

In April 2022, the devastating floods in KwaZulu-Natal left many of our FreshStop colleagues homeless and in dire need of support. To address this urgent situation, FreshStop took proactive measures to assist affected colleagues and their families. Through donations totalling over R400,000 worth of fruit and vegetables, FreshStop ensured access to nutritious food for those impacted by the floods.

Additionally, the FreshStop Franchise Forum launched two cash support channels to provide financial aid to affected colleagues and vulnerable communities in flood-affected areas. By matching cash donations to the FreshStop KZN Flood Relief Fund and collaborating with other donors, FreshStop raised significant funds to alleviate the financial burden on affected individuals and families.

Providing Trauma Counselling and Support

We offer trauma counselling services to our colleagues in times of need. Since the beginning of 2022, over 120 counselling sessions have been conducted to provide support and assistance to colleagues dealing with traumatic incidents, grief, anxiety, and other challenges. We ensure that these counselling sessions are voluntary, confidential, and tailored to meet the individual needs of our colleagues.

We are committed to supporting our colleagues beyond the workplace. Through initiatives like the Disaster Relief Fund and trauma counselling services, we stand together as a community, offering compassion, assistance, and hope during times of adversity.
