Beneficiary Organisations

Our focus is to build store-led relationships with local child-centric organisations that empower our colleagues and change the lives of beneficiaries. In this way, each Food Lover’s Market store supports a child-centric Beneficiary Organisation (BO) in their immediate community through feeding schemes and donations. We support a minimum of 52 beneficiaries on an ongoing basis. There are 17 in the Western Cape, 6 in the Eastern Cape, 9 in KZN, 26 Inland and 11 through our Head Office. We also support 150 schools, churches and sports clubs on once-off basis throughout the year.

Eastern Cape

JBay Recycling Project

A project that has been making a difference in the Eastern Cape town of Jeffreys Bay for 13 years, their simple yet powerful mission is to keep the environment clean while alleviating hunger and providing children from the community with access to basic essentials.

Khayalethu Youth Centre

This centre provides a home and place of safety for 35 at-risk boys and young men between the ages of six and 21, with the aim of preparing them physically, emotionally and intellectually so that they can become responsible, functioning members of society.

Môreson Children’s Home

This facility is made up of eight houses in which 12 to 14 children are housed individually, they receive care from skilled and compassionate youth care workers. There are currently 100 children at the establishment, which opened in 1977, and they aim to provide our youth with a safe space.

Mossel Bay Care Centre

This organisation runs several outreach programmes. This includes providing food for 160 underprivileged children each day as well as school clothes and shoes and helping them after school with their homework. They also distribute food parcels to vulnerable pensioners.

Gauteng

Angels Baby Sanctuary

Angels Baby Sanctuary,This facility has been caring for abandoned and unwanted babies for over 10 years. They tend to their physical needs.

Bread Of Life

The aim of this organisation is to provide a holistic shelter environment for children, from a baby home for abandoned newborns to youth empowerment skills development, to nurture the future leaders of the country and help bring an end to the cycle of poverty.

Jacaranda Children’s Home

This facility looks after children between the ages of three and 18 who have been placed in their care by the court system, with the aim of providing them with the love, care and skills they need now to go on to be responsible and confident adults in their communities.

Jesus Overlanding

Hailing all the way from Mexico and doing missionary work and outreach for the last 16 years, the leader of this charitable foundation is following his calling and supplies necessary items, food and the gospel to disadvantaged communities across South Africa.

Johannesburg Care Foundation

A soup kitchen which distributes sandwiches and cooked meals to informal settlements and other underserved areas in Gauteng West. They also assist the elderly through their blanket drives, especially during winter.

Mother of Peace

Established in 1989, this organisation is focused on the needs of children who are affected by the HIV/AIDS crisis.

Olievenhoutbosch Disability Organisation

Olievenhoutbosch was registered as an NPO in 2019 and provides much-needed assistance to people with disabilities in the local community.

P.E.A.C.E Foundation

This organisation not only strives to alleviate rural poverty and improve local economic development through many initiatives but also joined forces with Elephants, Rhinos & People (ERP) to expand the scope of their work to Southern African wildlife conservation as well.

Rays of Hope

Operating since 1991 and currently with over 400 people in their programmes, Rays of Hope facilitates many social outreach initiatives in the Alexandra Township in northern Johannesburg. Their focus is on improving the lives of children and their families.

Sparrow Rainbow Village

This establishment, located in Gauteng, is the first of its kind anywhere in the world, offering hospice care to adults and children infected with HIV/AIDS. They also dispense vital antiretroviral medication to help people control it, improving their quality of life.

The House Group

Founded in 1990 in the inner city of Johannesburg, this organisation’s focus is the upliftment of disadvantaged, abused and neglected and girls.

The Potato Foundation

Established in February 2007 and serving Pretoria and the surrounding region ever since, this foundation focuses on the upliftment of neglected and forgotten children from local disadvantaged areas, providing them with the community services necessary to thrive.

Tshwane Place of Safety Association

Tshwane Place of Safety Association understands the importance of family and provides emotional, physical and spiritual care in a relaxed home environment for abandoned, abused, traumatised, orphaned, sick and HIV+ babies and toddlers and educates and supports families in crisis.

KwaZulu-Natal

Durban Child & Youth Care Centre

This centre provides a safe and loving environment for children and residential care in a family setting for 60 between the ages of two and 18. Their ultimate goal is to develop, strengthen and empower families so that children can eventually be reunited with them.

Malvern Child & Youth Care Centre

This centre provides a safe haven for vulnerable and orphaned children between the ages of 3 and 18. Their mission is to provide them with a secure and nurturing environment so that they can grow up to reach their full potential and live as well-adjusted adults in society.

Operation Bobbi Bear

First opening its doors in 2010, this centre provides a safe space and temporary home to children who come from abusive homes and spreads awareness at schools about HIV prevention. They work to uphold children’s rights and help them restore hope and dignity.

Ray of Hope

Based in Durban North, this organisation has been providing a safe, stable and loving environment for orphaned, abandoned and at-risk babies and toddlers since 2009. Day and night caregivers ensure that their needs are met so that they can grow and develop.

Summerhill House

This NPO from KawZulu-Natal has a children’s home and also spearheads many community upliftment initiatives. Each house mother lovingly raises six children and provides a family-centric home environment where they get the attention and care they need to thrive.

The Baby Home


Based in Durban North, this home cares for babies and toddlers from birth until age four as well as young children with special needs. They also facilitate adoptions. Each baby receives individual attention, nurturing, love and care from the compassionate staff and volunteers.

North East

Noah’s Ark Children’s Home

Established in 2002 to meet the needs of vulnerable children affected by the AIDS pandemic and other socio-economic problems in Limpopo.

TechnoAfrika Academy

This academy has a Discovery Centre with the purpose of promoting science, technology and innovation in schools and disadvantaged communities. They hope that this will improve the quality of education and livelihood through technology to build a thriving economy.

North West

Legae Child Care Centre

Situated in Mahikeng, this organisation has a drop-in centre that provides a meal to more than 250 needy children each day. Their aim is to restore dignity and provide local young people with the support they need in order to finish their schooling and be successful.

Lighthouse Children’s Home

Based in Rustenburg, this facility takes care of 31 vulnerable children between the ages of one month and 12 years. They aim not just to be a place of safety for them but to also educate and empower the children so that they can go on to live happy and fulfilling lives.

SOS Children’s Village Rustenberg

The most recent addition to the growing SOS family is located at the foot of the Magaliesberg mountains in Rustenburg. It advocates for the rights of children, provides care to over 80 young people and engages in many community outreach programmes.

Western Cape

Blue Bus Community Ministries

This is a Christian-based public benefit organisation that focuses on uplifting people from the impoverished community of Delft. They have been working with children, youth and families for over 13 years and strive to help people unlock their full potential for a brighter future.”

Darun Naim Orphanage

The vision on which this organisation was established is to provide a caring, nurturing family environment to the most vulnerable children in the community,they rely on fundraising initiatives and financial support to allow them to help 13 children on an ongoing basis.

Durbanville Children’s Home

Dating back to 1883 and one of the oldest in South Africa, this care centre in Cape Town’s northern suburbs provides residential care.

Food Forward SA

Established in 2009 to address widespread hunger in South Africa, FoodForward SA connects a world of excess to a world of need by recovering quality edible surplus food from the consumer goods supply chain and distributing it to community organisations that serve the poor.

Fruitful Givers

Based in the heart of the most impoverished communities of Malmesbury, this organisation aims to transform the lives of children and adults who live in adverse situations. They also have a multitude of feeding programs and soup kitchens that focus on getting nutritious food to people who live in abject poverty.

Lelieblom House

This Western Cape organisation was established as a refuge for women and now operates as a residential home for 60 children.

NOSTOP

This organisation was founded to bring stability and positivity to the lives of children, adults and the elderly living in the Kraaifontein area and create opportunities to encourage community development and upliftment through various educational and social activities.

Pioneer School for the Visually Impaired

Established in the Western Cape town of Worcester in 1881, this school caters to blind, partially-sighted and multi-disabled learners.

Service Dining Rooms

Based in the heart of the Mother City, this establishment has been ensuring that people in the community are fed and cared for since 1935. They feed over 300 people a day at their facility and also provide cooked meals and food parcels for off-site beneficiaries.

Shiloh Synergy

This organisation is made up of various projects, all of them with the aim of uplifting people in underprivileged communities.

Siyabonga – Pikanini Creche

This centre focuses on Early Childhood Development (ECD) in children of pre-school age from vulnerable communities around the Cape. Staff are trained to provide the appropriate education and holistic development to get the children ready to attend school and thrive.”

TLC OUTREACH

Established in 2000, this organisation focuses on providing rehabilitation to children who are living on the streets due to abuse, addiction or extreme poverty in Table View and the surrounding areas. They also strive to meet the needs of those living in informal settlements.

Westlake United Church Trust

This trust does work in their community and hosts youth programmes, all with a focus on developing future leadership as well as nurturing creative and sporting talents to unlock each child’s potential. They also provide health and wellness services to those in need.
