Cheese and apple is a match that has been enjoyed for centuries. Here we have included this loving partnership and taken it a step further by adding the smoky flavour of BBQ-basted burger patty, putting it all together in a neat package.
1 pack Food Lover’s Beef Burgers 400g (whichever flavour you prefer)
Food Lover’s Signature BBQ Basting Sauce
letuce, washed and broken into bite-sized pieces
tomato, sliced
Food Lover’s Pickled Mild or Sweet n Sour Gherkins
Onion, sliced (optional)
1 large apple, preferably Granny Smith
lemon juice
4 Cheddar cheese slices
4 Hamburger Buns, sliced in half
Slice apple into thin wedges and dredge in lemon juice mixed with water until required.
Place burger patties on a hot, oiled griddle; cook until done to your liking, flipping patties so they do not burn.
About half way through the cooking, baste both sides with the BBQ sauce. Do not baste too soon as the sugar in the marinade will burn and impart a charred flavour.
Place the cheese slices on top of each patty and allow cheese to begin melting.
Remove apple wedges from lemon water; lightly brush with oil or butter and place on griddle. Turn when griddle lines appear on apple and repeat on other side.
Toast burger buns while preparing other ingredients. Spread lightly toasted buns with mayonnaise top and bottom. Layer lettuce, tomato, gherkins and onion slices if using.
Place cooked burger patty on top of the vegetables and finally add a few grilled apple wedges.
Serve with fresh hot chips.
Hot Tip:
To get the crispiest outside and the softest inside, cook your chips twice. First time, in hot sunflower oil until they just begin to soften. Drain and leave to cool. When ready to eat, cook again in the same oil until crisp, brown and yummy.
