Every August in South Africa, we observe Women’s Month. This is a time to reflect on the accomplishments of our nation’s women and also highlight the issues they still face in society. At Food Lover’s Market, we are proud to support several women-run beneficiary organisations that are making a positive impact and changing lives in their communities. Here are three to celebrate this month – and always!
The House Group
Our Park Meadows store in Joburg donates to The House Group – an organisation that uplifts the lives of disadvantaged, abused and neglected girls in the community as well as serves as a safe house for victims of trafficking. They’ve been assisting and fighting for the rights of girl children since the 1990s and are committed to ending the suffering of and providing peace for these vulnerable members of society.
How you can help The House Group is always in need of new or used clothes for females between ages 12 and 18.
Angels Baby Sanctuary
An organisation that has been providing love, care and healing to babies in need for 10 years, Angels Baby Sanctuary is a beneficiary of our Comaro Crossing store in Joburg South. It was founded and is run by passionate women who, recognising the need for a place of refuge for unwanted infants and toddlers in the community, provide medical care, stimulation and a safe, clean environment so they have a fighting chance at life.
How you can help This safe haven is always in need of essential donations of baby-care products as well as funds to support their cause.
Legae Child Care Centre
Our Mega City store in the North West is a donor to this organisation, which was founded by a mother-daughter duo. It caters to the children in the community and provides them with a meal. For many of them, this is their only food for the day. Their drop-in centre welcomes all youth and their aim is to get kids into school, restore their dignity, build their sense of self-worth and make a difference in their lives.
How you can help They appreciate donations of non-perishable food, toiletries, children’s clothes, shoes, toys, school supplies or household goods.
