Homemade Spiced Marmalade

This spiced orange marmalade recipe uses whole oranges, rather than just the skin and juice. It can be made chunkier (like ours), or smoother depending on how you cut the oranges. This is the best part about making your own marmalade, you can choose the texture how you like it. Do you prefer a thick-cut marmalade? Or one with a more uniform, delicate texture?  Do you know what makes citrus fruits ideal for preserving? Citrus fruits contain high amounts of natural pectin, acid and bitterness  (namely oranges, lemons and grapefruits) making them ideal for preserving.

Additional Notes

How to sterilise a jar?

Reuse old jars, like honey, sauce or peanut butter jars!

Thoroughly wash your jars and the lids in hot/boiling soapy water, but do not dry them. Instead, leave them to stand upside down on a roasting tray while they’re still wet. Pop the tray of clean, wet jars and lids in to a preheated oven at 160-180ºC for about 15 mins. Remove and allow to cool and use.
