Tags

Looking for a light, poolside snack? This homemade black bean hummus with fresh Summer salsa and corn chips is what you need! Traditional hummus uses chickpeas, but you can use any bean or pea you like. This black bean hummus is naturally gluten-free and vegan. It’s as simple as blending up a few ingredients, plus a little chopping for the salsa, and opening a bag of Mexicorn corn chips!

It’s the perfect appetizer, party food, or plant-based snack.

Additional Notes

Can I substitute the black beans for something else?

Yes, if you’re not up for black beans then you can make delicious substitutes! Traditionally you can use chickpeas to make hummus, but we love these other beans as a hummus:

  • Cannellini Beans (try this recipe)
  • Butter Beans
  • Red Kidney Beans
  • Green Peas (cooked)

What is tahini and where do I find it?

Tahini is a sesame seed paste (or butter). Much like peanut butter, or nut butter, where the nuts are blended into a ‘butter’, tahini is made from blending sesame seeds. You can find tahini in the Food Lover’s Market health department. We stock the following brands: Oh Mega Tahini, Nature’s Choice Tahini as well as some other brands that you’ll find in different stores.

Can I flavour the hummus with other ingredients?

Get creative with your hummus, from the likes of smokey butternut hummus to a bright beetroot hummus, a green hummus, or even a chocolate hummus…the list goes on! Here are our interesting hummus recipes:
